Demi Moore has been a mainstay of our movie screens for 30 years.

After bursting into the spotlight in the 1980s, she became one of the highest paid and most famous actresses of the ’90s thanks to roles in movies such as Ghost, Indecent Proposal, Striptease and GI Jane,

Moore has been married three times, each ending in divorce, although she maintains a loving relationship with second husband. Bruce Williswith whom she shares three children.

Moore was born Demi Gene Guynes on November 11, 1962, in the town of Roswell, New Mexico. Her father left her mother Virginia when she was pregnant with Demi.

She had a complicated relationship with her mother, once cutting her out of her life, but they reconciled shortly before her mother’s death in 1998.

Around her 16th birthday, Moore quit high school and reportedly moved in with 28-year-old guitarist, Tom Dunston.

After signing a modeling contract with Elite Modeling Agency, she enrolled in acting classes.

She was 17 when she met her first husband, musician Freddy Moore, when he was performing at famed LA nightclub, The Troubadour.

He divorced his wife and married Moore, just 18, on February 8, 1981, who adopted his last name professionally.

But the actress revealed in her memoir, Inside Out, the marriage got off to a bad start.

“The night before we got married, instead of working on my vows, I was calling a guy I’d met on a movie set,” she wrote.

“I snuck out of my own bachelorette party and went to his apartment.”

Moore said she “couldn’t face the fact that I was getting married to distract myself from grieving the death of my father.”

“I felt there was no room to question what I’d already put in motion. I couldn’t get out of the marriage, but I could sabotage it,” she wrote.

The co-star was later revealed to be Paul Carafotes, whom she appeared opposite in the 1981 movie, Choices.

Freddy Moore died in 2022 at the age of 72.

After they separated in 1983, Moore embarked on a short-lived relationship with actor Timothy Hutton.

She appeared in two films released in 1984, Blame it on Rio, opposite Michael Caine, and No Small Affair, opposite Jon Cryer,

Iconic Hollywood couples from the ’80s

Moore later admitted in her memoir Inside Out that she slept with Cryer during filming.

He recalled in the documentary brats, “We dated for a short time while we were working on No Small Affairbut I guess our particular affair was, in fact, pretty small.”

In October 1984, Moore began filming St Elmo’s Fire on location in Washington, alongside Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy and Andie MacDowell.

Moore began a relationship with Estevez on set and within months they were engaged. The two planned to marry on December 6, 1986.

Moore wrote in Inside Out“Emilio and I had in fact just mailed out the invitations for our wedding when a friend told me she had seen him out with someone else in LA.”

While he denied it, Moore wrote that he had slept with a former girlfriend while the two were on a break, lied about it and only admitted the truth when he found out she was pregnant.

It later emerged Estevez had two children with the woman, Carey Salley, after she sued him in 1986 for child support.

Moore wrote that she called off the wedding on the advice of a therapist.

Moore and Estevez were at the premiere of the film Stakeout in July 1987 when she met actor Bruce Willis, who was then best known for his role in the TV series, Moonlighting,

Within weeks, Moore had split with Estevez and moved on with Willis.

Just four months after that first meeting, the two married on November 21, 1987, during a ceremony at the Golden Nugget hotel in Las Vegas.

Moore revealed in her memoir that the nuptials were unplanned.

“We were moving to the gambling tables when Bruce said, ‘I think we should get married,'” she recalled.

“We’d been joking about it on the flight there, but suddenly it didn’t seem like he was kidding.”

The following month they held a second wedding ceremony for invited family and friends.

At first things were perfect. Moore wrote in her memoir, Inside Out“Bruce insisted that he thought everything about me was beautiful: he wrapped my fear and anxiety in his love.”

They welcomed their first child, daughter Rumer, in August 1988, and retreated to Willis’s home in Hailey, Idaho.

The first cracks appeared when Moore was offered a movie role opposite Robert De Niro and Sean Penn, but Willis was opposed.

She said he told her, “This is never going to work if you’re off shooting a film,” but she assured him it would.

Despite early troubles in their marriage, two more daughters, Scout and Tallulah, followed in 1991 and 1994.

During their marriage, both their careers soared. Willis became an action star thanks to die hard, while Moore appeared in the 1990 smash hit film Ghostopposite Patrick Swayze.

At one stage, Ghost and Die Hard 2 held the number one and two spots at the box office.

Moore went on to star in A Few Good Men, Indecent Proposal,and Disclosure before being offered a record-breaking salary of $18.5 million to star in the 1996 film Striptease.

She followed this with a role as a female navy SEAL recruit in the 1997 movie GI Jane,

Moore and Willis announced their separation on June 24, 1998, and finalized their divorce on October 18, 2000.

After a three-year relationship with martial arts instructor Oliver Whitcomb, from 1999 to 2002, Moore began dating Ashton Kutcher after they met at a dinner in 2003.

Their age difference raised eyebrows. Moore was 41 while Kutcher, then 25, was just 10 years older than Rumer.

They married on September 24, 2005, when Moore was 43 and Kutcher was 27.

Moore revealed later she suffered a stillbirth when she was six months pregnant.

They continued to try to have a child together, but Moore wrote in her memoir that when that didn’t work, she agreed to his requests to have threesomes.

After rumors of him cheating with women as young as 21 – including in their home while she was away shooting a film – and on their sixth wedding anniversary, Moore announced in November 2011 that the marriage was over.

Moore wrote that after years of sobriety, she began drinking heavily during the marriage, prompting her daughters to cut ties with her until she sought help.

She went to rebab in 2012 and the divorce was finalized in November 2013.

In 2022, Moore went public with Michelin star chef Harry Morton but they split later that year. She is not thinking to be dating anyone at this time.

Today, Moore maintains a close friendship with Willis and his wife Emma Heming Willis, and has stood by them since it was announced Willis was suffering from aphasia in 2022.

In 2023 his family revealed Willis had since been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.

Now 61, Moore is returning to the big screen in The substance, which has been described as a brutal film about ageing.
