British singer Robbie Williams had fans in a frenzy after performing a free pop-up gig at Melbourne’s Federation Square last night.
The pop star took to the stage to promote his new biopic movie, Better Manwhich was filmed in Melbourne and funded by Victoria and the federal governments.
The free Federation Square event attracted thousands of fans who flocked to Melbourne’s CBD to watch Williams perform and receive a special honour.

Williams was given a key to the City of Melbourne, which the council says is a gesture to honor the singer’s contribution to the city.
Better Man is the largest film production in Victoria’s history. It created 2920 jobs, supported 904 local businesses and pulled $142 million into the Victorian economy.
The high honor is very rarely bestowed, with only 40 keys to the city handed out previously.

Williams performed dressed entirely in white with a pair of glittering sunglasses and also spent time talking with the audience.
The star shared insights about the film and performed some of his biggest hits that are featured in the movie, including a cover of I Did It My Way.
Following the one-hour performance, Williams took to social media to share photos of the event.

Concertgoers flooded the comment section with words of praise for the singer, thanking him for putting on the free performance.
“Wow, Thank you Robbie for doing Fed Square. The best entertainer. So real. It’s just what the people of Melbourne need right now,” one user wrote.

Another added: “That was UNBELIEVABLE! From seeing you NYE in Sydney (and getting a scalding from you ??????) to fed square it’s been an amazing few days. Thankyou Rob! ❤️.”
One fan wrote: “Thank you so much for the best day yesterday Rob. Fed Square was f–king unreal! You are the best and we love you ❤️.”
Better Man is based on the story of the pop star’s rise, fall, and resurgence, portrayed by a CGI chimp.
The film stars Williams, Jonno Davies, Steve Pemberton, Damon Herriman, Raechelle Banno, Alison Steadman and Kate Mulvany.
Since its premiere, the film has received rave reviews, it currently has a 91 per cent review score on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as an audience score of 98 per cent.
The former Take That star The Guardian: “Let’s face it, a Robbie Williams biopic without the monkey is way less appealing, or intriguing.
“It would be interesting to my fans but not to anyone else,” he candidly said.
When asked why he wanted to create a biopic, Williams joked: “I am a professional attention seeker.
“Without attention, I cease to exist. Professionally, I need to do this. Because this is my job. This is how you advertise that you’re still here. My job, fortunately or unfortunately, revolves around eyes being on you.”
