Fans of Sum 41 will no longer get the chance to see the Canadian band perform live in Australia before they go their separate ways,
That’s according to Sum 41 themselves, who have been forced to cancel their australia tour – which was set to kick off in Brisbane on Wednesday – altogether one day after it was set to start due to frontman Deryck Whibley’s diagnosis.
“It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce our 2024 Australian tour is unable to proceed,” Sum 41 wrote in a statement shared to the Good Things Festival’s official Instagram page on thursday.

“We were beyond excited to deliver this tour from December 4 – December 12, and connect with our Aussie fans once more,” the statement continued.
“Now that we’re here though, and under the guidance and direction of multiple Australian doctors, it’s clear that Deryck is too unwell to perform.
“We understand and appreciate your disappointment – we’re gutted too.”

“Unfortunately, we have to make the difficult decision to cancel tonight’s show in Brisbane due to Deryck being diagnosed with pneumonia,” Sum 41 said in a statement on Wednesday, per Rolling Stonehours before their Fortitude Valley Music Hall show was set to begin.
“He is receiving the best possible local care.”
Whibley’s recent diagnosis came more than a year after he was hospitalized with pneumonia – and the possibility of heart failure – in September 2023.

“We spent the entire night in the ER and will now be spending the next few days here in the hospital as he fights through pneumonia,” his wife, model Ariana Cooper Whibley, wrote on. Instagram at the time.
“The scariest part is that there is a lot of strain on his heart and they are telling us that there is a possibility of heart failure,” she continued.
“This is obviously not our first time in a situation like this but it brings back a lot of really difficult memories seeing him back in a hospital bed connected to wires and IVs.”

“I wanted to take a minute to say thank you to everyone for so much love and support,” he wrote on Instagram,
“Although I’m not out of the woods of this pneumonia yet and have been told to be prepared for a bit of roller coaster sickness over the next couple of weeks, I’m staying positive and doing my best to get through all of this .”
In May 2023, the band had revealed they were going to go their separate ways after 27 years following a farewell tour,
Sum 41’s final performance is scheduled for January 30, 2025, in Toronto, Canada.
