Legendary Hollyoaks actress Diane Langton dies at 77


Actress Diane Langton has died at the age of 77.

The Hollyoaks and Only Fools and Horses The star’s passing was confirmed by her agent; no cause of death was provided.

A statement from agent Shane Collins said: “I am sad to say that Diane Langton passed away this morning.”

“Diane had a rich and remarkable career Appearing on Stage, in Films, and on television, including playing the iconic Nana Mqueen in Hollyoaks from 2007 to the present day.”

Langton got her big break in 1959 when she landed a role in Carry on Teacherkicking off a long career both on and screen.

Her first acting job resulted in the television spin-off Carry on Laughing in 1975, followed by the film sequel Carry on England in 1976.

The star also had a recurring role as June Snell on the beloved BBC sitcom. Only Fools and Horsesappearing in two episodes.

Becoming a veteran television actress, Langton went on to star in EastEnders, Ball and heartbeat before earning her career-defining role as Marlena’ Nana’ McQueen in Hollyoaks,

The star started Hollyoaks in 2007, leaving in 2009 for a brief break until 2012 before returning to the series in 2023, leaving again and returning to screens in 2024.

Jeff Baena, writer, director and husband of actress and comedian Aubrey Plaza, has died, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. The couple is pictured together in this 2016 photo.

Langton’s agent revealed: “Diane trained at the Corona Academy and started her professional career as a dancer, touring with ballet companies throughout Europe, followed by appearances on That Was the Week That Was and The London Palladium,

Collins added: “Her many West End Musicals include Jesus Christ Superstar; Two Gentlemen of Verona; Petra in A Little Night Music (directed by Hal Prince); Fastrada in Pippin (directed by Bob Fosse); Diana in A Chorus Line (directed by Michael Bennett).”

Tributes have been paid to the actress from the entertainment world, including from musical theater star Elaine Page, who starred alongside her in a production of hair,

“In total shock at Diane Langton’s passing,” she tweeted“Memories of us in hair flooding back. Her in the dressing room with a bottle of brown ale!

“We also recorded an LP, ‘Sparrow’. She was a unique, talented artist. A funny, kind and special friend. My thoughts with husband Derek. RIP Diane.”
