Instagram introducing live location sharing feature – Here’s every detail you need to know

Instagram, owned by Meta, is one of the most popular social media platforms. It has two billion active users. It gained popularity after the introduction of the reels – which was inspired by TikTok, in 2020. After the launch of this feature, it even became more popular than its sister platform Facebook.

To keep users engaged, the company has been introducing several features. It is now introducing live location sharing on DMs.

This feature works like WhatsApp’s live location where users can share live locations for up to one hour or pin a spot on the map to coordinate arrival times, and activities or find each other in crowded spaces.

How To Share Your Live Location on Instagram

Step 1: Tap on conversation in the top right corner of the app.

Step 2: Select the name of the person with whom you want to share.

Step 3: Tap on the ‘+’ sign at the right bottom.

Step 4: Tap Location to share the location

Note: The duration a live location can be shared is 1 hour.

Tap View below your message to see a larger map with your live location and the duration remaining that your location will be shared.

“You can stop sharing your location at any time by tapping Stop sharing location. Otherwise, your location will no longer be visible once the duration you’ve chosen has ended,” the Instagram help page reads.

When others view your message, they’ll also be able to share their location by tapping Share location below the map.

Meanwhile, the platform is set to allow users to manually reset the recommendation algorithm that determines the posts they see in their feeds. In a blog post, Instagram said the change was designed to ensure teenagers see appropriate content.

“We want to make sure everyone on Instagram — especially teens — has safe, positive, age-appropriate experiences and feels the time they’re spending on Instagram is valuable”, the company said.

Instagram said that, in the coming days, users will be able to clear the recommended content across their Reels, Feed, and Explore tabs. In the reset mode, users will also have the option to review the entire ‘following’ list and unfollow accounts as they desire.
