Jack Osbourne has claimed he lost out on work over his multiple sclerosis diagnosis

Osbourne, 39, the son of Black Sabbath singer Ozzy Osbourne and wife Sharon Osbourne, was diagnosed with the neurological disorder in 2012 when he was 26.

His diagnosis came weeks after welcoming his daughter Pearl with ex-wife Lisa Stelly. But according to the actor, early on in his career he was considered an “insurance risk”.

“Professionally, it was a problem early on where I couldn’t get hired on productions because they deemed me an insurance risk because I had a neurological disorder,” Osbourne said at Steel City Con last week, per People,

“They were like, ‘Oh, yeah, it’s too dangerous,'” he recalled.

Osbourne starred alongside his parents and sister Kelly Osbourne on the MTV reality television series The Osbournes in the early 2000s when he was a teenager.

He then moved into acting with small roles in shows like Dawson’s Creek before landing his own shows such as Union Jack and becoming a producer.

“I know what it means to be a producer. We’re not that smart,” he continued.

“And you’re going to sit there and, like, a producer is going to tell me what I can or cannot do on a neurological (issue)? I’m like, ‘No, f–k off, dude, stay ‘in your lane’,” he said.

The star told Hello! magazine in 2012 he was diagnosed with the neurological disorder after he lost 60 percent of the vision in his right eye.

In a 2018 interview with Everyday Healththe actor opened up about feeling a “responsibility” as a public figure to share his diagnosis with the world.

“I felt a weird obligation,” he told the outlet. “I’m in the public eye, and I thought it would really benefit people.”

Osbourne added: “A lot of people who are younger are nervous to let people know about it because of the stigma that comes along with it. I know a few people who keep it on the (down low).”

Several other celebrities including Christina Applegate, Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Selma Blair have spoken out about suffering with multiple sclerosis in the entertainment industry.

Osbourne has continued to work in television, last year starring in his own reality show. Jack Osbourne’s Night of Terror and Jack Osbourne’s Buried Bloodlines.

The actor is currently married to Aree Gearhart and has four children from his two marriages.
