At first glance Hot Frosty seems like just another charming festive romantic flickStarring former child star Lacey Chabert, the movie follows the life of Kathy Barrett who unwittingly brings a snowman to life.
It’s only when you look a little more closely at the cast that you see the Christmas movie stars a rather accomplished actor Dustin Milligan, 39, who plays Jack Snowman, the rather buff snowman turned man.
So, who is Dustin Milligan and where have we seen him before? You’ll never guess where, because he looks so different in each of his roles. He just has one of those faces.

Who is Dustin Milligan?
Dustin Milligan is a Canadian actor who first found fame as part of the ensemble cast of the 90210 reboot which aired from 2008 until 2013.

He played Ethan Ward, a star lacrosse player at West Beverly high school. He and main character Dixon are rivals but eventually become friends. Ethan begins dating Dixon’s sister Naomi but cheats on her.
His love life remains tumultuous, as does the love lives of his peers.

Milligan’s character was written out of the show at the end of 2009 and it was his next role that would showcase his incredible range as an actor.

By the time he was cast in 90210 he had a number of film credits including Final Destination 3 in 2006, Slither in 2006, The Butterfly Effect 2 in 2006, In the Land of Women in 2007, Butterfly on a Wheel in 2007, The Messengers in 2007.
He had also earned multiple TV credits including in short-lived primetime suspense drama Runaway which only ran for nine episodes. He also starred in made for TV film Eight Days to Live and had minor roles in the television series The Days, Andromeda, The Dead Zone, Alice, I Think, supernatural and the CBC’s Da Vinci’s City Hall,
In 2010, Mulligan played Kyle Halsted in the indie action crime drama film Repeaters and also starred in horror movie Shark Night 3D,

Milligan hit the big time as ‘hot vet’ Ted Mullens on Schitt’s Creek playing a clean-cut, earnest, honest, endearing character who wins the heart of Alexis Rose. The series ran from 2015 until 2020 with Milligan starring in the series for its duration.

His character sports a short hairstyle and understated look which, despite his fame due to the series’ success, means he would be largely unrecognizable in his next role, as Jack Snowman in Hot Frosty,
In 2022 Milligan starred in the Amazon movie The People We Hate At Weddings alongside Kristen Bell.

You’d be forgiven for not recognizing Milligan at first in his role as Jack Snowman in Netflix movie Hot Frosty, out now. His hair is long and he is largely shirtless at first.
This isn’t his first Christmas movie, by the way. In 2012 he starred as Sam Reed in the Lifetime Original Movie Love at the Christmas Table with The Wonder Years alumni Danica McKellar.
Hot Frosty is billed as a heartwarming Christmas flick, in which widow Kathy magically brings a snowman to life and it is his “innocence” that “helps heal her heart”.

Milligan admitted in an interview with Collider he felt “incredibly uncomfortable” going shirtless for his role as Jack Snowman but enjoyed the endearing nature of the role.
Personal life
Milligan has been in a relationship with Silicon Valley actress Amanda Crew, 38, since 2010. He has referred to her as his wife, although neither has confirmed their marriage. The pair reportedly met on the set of Repeaters,
The couple are parents to an eight-year-old daughter and he has mentioned that his daughter has watched Hot Frosty,
The pair are notoriously private about their relationship and rarely feature on the other’s social media accounts, although Crew, a budding photographer, has been known to snap his image for official photos used by Milligan for various campaigns.
Advocacy work
Milligan is from Yellowknife, Canada and became involved in the Yellowknife Community Foundation when he was 21 and his career was building quickly.
“I was 21 and had just booked a job where I was getting paid real money for the first time. I had heard of the Yellowknife Community Foundation through teachers at my high school and was looking for a way to give back. The more I looked into it, the more I appreciated the overall community oriented focus,” he said.
Milligan created a scholarship program to help young locals achieve their goals. It is called the ‘Hurry Up And Do It Already Arts Scholarship’ and was established by him to specifically assist École Sir John Franklin High School graduating students pursuing post-secondary studies in the performing arts, film, music or writing.
“I felt really grateful for the support from the Yellowknife arts community. So many people were behind what I was doing, so I wanted to take some of my success and reinvest it back into the community that had given me so much. I wanted to invest it back into other young artists,” he explained.
