Country music icon’s granddaughter Emmy Russell announces she is expecting her first baby


Congratulations are in order for Emmy Russell.

The 25 year old singer has just announced that she is expecting her first child with her partner Tyler Ward, 40.

Russell, who is the granddaughter of country music icon Loretta Lynn and an American Idol finalist, shared the news in a live recording of the Got It From My Momma podcast with her mother, Patsy.

“Emmy Rose has some special news to share tonight,” host Jennifer Vickery Smith told the audience teasing the exciting reveal.

Russell then chimed in.

“Y’all, Tyler and me are expecting a baby girl.”

The audience cheered in excitement as Ward rushed onto the stage.

He embraced Russell and placed his hands on her baby bump.

The singer, who recently starred on American Idolcontinued to share that she didn’t know she was pregnant as she was competing on the show.

“I’m so excited that right out of American Idol – I didn’t know. So, you know, that’s kind of been the journey,” she said.

“I’m so excited.

“This is the first time that I’m actually fully announcing that and so I thought it was fitting for this (podcast).”

Russell and Ward have kept their relationship relatively private, apart from some social media posts.

Last month, Ward shared a photo of the two of them standing with Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emboff during a visit to the White House.

“Had the privilege of meeting Kamala Harris and her husband at the White House this year! It was surreal. Kamala was very sweet,” he wrote about the experience.

“You might be asking, how in the world did this happen??” he added.

“Because Emmy Rose Russell is a superstar and was personally invited to perform. And me? Well…I’m just her arm candy ???!”

In December last year, Russell posted a series of sweet snaps of the two of them together.

Russell competed in the 22nd season of American Idol and ended up making it to the top five.

Throughout her time on the show she sang covers of Blink 182’s. All the Small ThingsMiley Cyrus’ The Climb and Bonnie Raitt’s I Can’t Make You Love Me,

She also sang her original song titled skinny for her audition.

Most notably, the singer performed a cover of her late grandmother Lynn’s song Coal Miner’s Daughter,

In an interview with Southern LivingRussell revealed that she grew up on the road with her grandmother.

”I call her Meemaw. I grew up going on the road with her. So my mum she actually was in a country duo group called the Lynns.

“I just grew up singing, two years old, singing on the road, so (we were) very close my entire life.”

Lynn is an icon of the country music scene.

Her career spanned six decades and she released multiple gold albums.

Some of her most notable songs include Coal Miner’s Daughter, I’m a Honky Tonk Girl, You’re Looking at Country and It’s Only Make Believe.

Lynn died in October 2022, aged 90.
