Bridget Jones’s Diary cast: Where are they now?

Texas-born Renée Zellweger is no one-trick pony.

While arguably one of her most famous roles is Bridget Jones, she did win an Oscar for her supporting role as Ruby Thewes in cold mountain (2003), and starred in flicks Down With Love (2003), Miss Potter (2006), Cinderella Man (2005) and as Judy Garland in Judy (2019).

The now 54-year-old actress has been engaged to comedian Jim Carrey, and was briefly married to singer Kenny Chesney in 2005.

Zellweger’s character of Bridget is one that has been analyzed and picked apart by popular culture over the decades – particularly over the way the film dealt with her character’s body image.

The movie’s writer Richard Curtis, who is also famous for writing and directing the film. Love Actually, decided to backtrack on his treatment of female characters and admitted fat jokes are “no longer funny”.

Curtis made the remarks while fielding questions from his own daughter Scarlett during the The Sunday Times Cheltenham Literature Festival.

“I remember how shocked I was five years ago when Scarlett said to me, ‘You can never use the word “fat” again.’ Wow, you were right. In my generation calling someone chubby (was funny) – in Love Actually there were jokes about that,” he said.

“Those jokes aren’t funny any longer.”
