‘Not shameful’: Star’s impassioned speech after ‘vulnerable’ admission


selena gomez was captured giving an impassioned speech, responding to backlash she received after recently revealing that she can’t carry her own children.

In the now viral video, the actress was seen sitting beside her younger sister Gracie at a Women in Film dinner, where she said that she was not ashamed of revealing her vulnerabilities.

“I truly believe that there is power in being vulnerable and telling people when you need help and you want help,” the 32-year-old said.

She spoke to the room as she added, “That is not shameful. So, yeah, I shared that I can’t carry a child. Yeah, I shared that I have bipolar (disorder). F–k off.”

The crowd then broke into applause before Gomez continued, ”I only want to be an advocate for women and that’s why I share.

“That’s why I like to be honest, because everybody is going through something. I’m me and that’s all I can be.

She addressed her younger sister and another attendee across the room, telling them “Do not let anyone ever tell you that you are not a good person, that you aren’t kind, that you won’t treat people with respect,” as she stroked her sister’s hair in affection.

“Screw anyone who tells you you’re a victim. You’re a survivor in my book,” she concluded to more applause.

”I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while,” she said.

The actress shared that although it isn’t exactly the way she “envisioned it,” she is still hopeful to one day become a mother through other avenues, adding that her own mother was adopted.

“I thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone,” she shared.

“But I’m in a much better place with that. I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me.”

In 2013, Gomez was diagnosed with lupus, receiving a kidney transplant due to complications associated with the disease.

In 2020 she shared her bipolar disorder, two years later revealing that her condition requires her to take medication that could affect her ability to one day carry children.
