Katherine Schwarzenegger has made a pointed statement about the state of the Met Gala in today’s day and age, comparing it to her parent’s generation.
Her mother, Maria Shriver – an American journalist, author, and Kennedy family member – posted a photo from her first Met Gala appearance in 2001, which she attended with her parents, Sargent Shriver and Eunice Kennedy, who is the sister of John F. Kennedy, as well as her cousin Caroline Kennedy, who is John F. Kennedy’s daughter.
“It’s the first Monday in May and the Met Gala is under way! Things were a little more low key when I attended back in 2001, but I thought I would share some photos from that wonderful night,” Shriver. posted to her Instagram account,

She continued: “Not only did I get to wear this beautiful dress, but I got to attend with both my parents, as well as my cousin, Caroline. What do you think: would we rock the red carpet in these same looks tonight? “
Shriver wore a pale purple sleeveless gown as she posed with her parents. Her mother wore a floral beaded Giorgio Armani dress while her father wore a black tux. Her cousin Caroline wore a similar dress to Shriver but in a white colour.
Schwarzenegger then reposted her mum’s Instagram post in a now-deleted Instagram Story with the caption, “When the Met Gala was chic and classy.”
